Meniscus Curve – S/T by Static Clang
Available digitally through iTunes or Zunior.
After a chance encounter at Sneaky Dee’s in Toronto, musicians Jessie Davis and Kevin Lynn have become mutant pop duo Meniscus Curve. The scientific term refers to the curved surface of a liquid, produced in response to the surface it touches – a perfect metaphor for Davis and Lynn’s music, which follows the bends and twists of time in its messy, passionate glory.
Toronto-based Lynn has released five critically acclaimed albums with King Cobb Steelie and Holy Fuck, and also as The Straggler. His sound and video art has been showcased at the Send + Receive Festival (Winnipeg), the Signal & Noise Festival (Vancouver) and Deep Wireless: New Directions in Sound Art (Toronto). Davis, whose rich vocals haunt Meniscus Curve’s lush soundscapes, comes from a chamber, jazz and folk background, and has performed on many Oshawa stages alongside Cuff the Duke, Nice Cat and Mossyrock.
Released in January 2009 on Static Clang, Meniscus Curve’s self-titled debut album is a testament—a stark 3 a.m. moment, a dark warmth, bloodletting, an entanglement. It doesn’t end there: the duo is still exploring and evolving, writing their history as they go.
